Forever grateful to customers, building capability to support customers and exceeding customer expectations, are some of the areas that Thierry Pimi, the new managing director, Cummins Southern Africa, wants to focus on.
“I am ready to take up the challenge and work hard to further enhance the business, elevate the Cummins brand, and get closer to our customer. My vision for Southern Africa is for us to exceed our customers’ expectations through world class professionalism from a diverse and highly motivated team,” says Pimi.
Not only was Pimi born and raised in Cameroon, he also studied mechanical engineering in the country what he refers to as the “Heart of Africa.” He portrayed his passion for the company at a recent event that announced the new appointment, as well as what he wants to focus on in the new role. He says that it was an easy choice for him to join the company, as Cummins understands what is needed in Africa in terms of energy supply.
Pimi took over from Schuyla Goodson Bell, who since assumed the role of vice president operations, Northern Area, Cummins Pacific Region in the United States of America. Pimi is not new to Cummins. He has held a number of senior management positions at Cummins in the USA and Senegal, starting off as a corporate strategy manager at the company.
He is a strong supporter of promoting local talent and has unleashed diverse and capable teams across the regions in which he has worked, combining seasoned industry leaders with exciting new hires equipped with strong local market knowledge and solid regional business culture.
The new managing director holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Yaounde 1 in Caroon, an MBA with majors in Finance and Strategy from Indiana University in Bloomington USA, a certificate in mining studies from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and is also a graduate of the Cummins Global Leadership Development Programme in Johannesburg South Africa.
