The Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) has welcomed the decision by the Judge President of the North Gauteng High Court on Thursday to have the review application on the Mining Charter heard by a full bench of judges later this year.
“The decision follows the move by the Chamber of Mines, which wanted to have the Charter reviewed before any implementation thereof could commence,” said the DMR in a statement.
The Ministry said it approached the High Court to have the matter presided over by a full bench, as the matter bares both national and international implications.
“The Ministry is of the view that this matter should be resolved speedily as part of government’s efforts to address growing impatience and anger experienced by sections of our country’s population as a result of continued marginalisation, especially in key economic sectors of our country,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the matter will be heard on the 13 and 14 December 2017
